Merced Chapter of CWA
Now that
State 2008 Convention is behind us; Merced Chapter is heavy into planning our Annual Spring Salad Luncheon and Market Faire
for Tuesday, March 18, in recognition of National Ag Week. Invitations to our Legislators, Merced County Supervisors,
Merced County Officials and special guests from the U.C.-Merced; Merced College and ag industry are in the mail. As usual we expect a great response and a wonderful event. Already
we have almost 40 members signed up to set tables; and 12 vendors signed up for the Market Faire. The Market Faire
will begin at 10:30 am with wine and cheese served. The Luncheon will be about 12 noon, with salads furnished by
our members. Not only is this an excellent way to recognize the importance of agriculture in Merced County; but proceeds from the event are put into our 3 scholarship funds.
San Joaquin Chapter of CWA
After attending the Statewide Convention our chapter was ready to start a busy 2008. We manned both an Information Booth and a Pie and Lunch Booth at the Stockton Ag Expo. Our chapter provided breakfast to all the volunteers of AgVenture, the program that teaches 3rd graders
where their food & fiber come from. We also had some ladies volunteer to
be group leaders of some of the more than 4,000 students in attendance. We recently
held a Table Setting luncheon with 25 gorgeous tables and our guests Statewide President Diana Westmoreland Pedrozo and 3rd V.P.
Lynn Figone in attendance. Coming in March we will have our Spring Luncheon and
another round of AgVenture. March will also bring Ag Day at the Capitol. We will be participating in the Stockton Asparagus Festival April 25th-27th with a food booth and a sweatshirt and apron booth. These activities are all to raise money for our scholarships. Scholarship applications will be due in April and awarded shortly thereafter. We look forward to the May Statewide meeting at the capitol!

Stanislaus Chapter of CWA
Stanislaus County has started out the New Year right! We have been very active with numerous activities. We joined
up with the Stanislaus Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers to bring community awareness to Food Check Out Week. Members collected food for the Second Harvest Food Bank at a local Save Mart in Oakdale.
Our executive board
met and designed a new schedule of activities for this coming year. We have started a plan to have an executive board meeting
every other month. This allows for a fun interactive meeting on the alternate months.
Our theme for our Annual
Table Setting Luncheon held on February 23, was “California Gold, Our State, Our Heritage, Our Home”. Some of
the table themes presented were: The Gold Rush, Girls Drive Tractors too, California’s Top 8 Commodities and Still Golden.
Diana Westmoreland Pedroza, State CWA President, spoke to us about the importance of a domestic food supply. Diana inspired
many new members to join. We had about 15 new members join our Chapter at this
great event! The silent auction was a great success do to all the exciting items brought by our great membership. We also
had a victorious raffle to award our lovely full table setting donated by Sharalee Sanders.
We are looking forward
to our next meeting, April 16th at Blooming Camp Ranch for a tour and presentation. Yosemite Farm Credit’s
Annual Meeting is also on our calendars, wherein Stanislaus CWA has a booth during the Trade Show at the Yosemite FC Annual
Meeting to encourage CWA membership and answer questions about CWA. Our Chapter
President Pamela Sweeten is heading up the Ag Day at the Capitol for state.
